    Welcome to École Wîhkwêntôwin School

    We are so pleased to let you know that in April 2024, our school received a new name: Wîhkwêntôwin School.

    Wîhkwêntôwin is a Cree word that can be translated into English as ‘circle of friends’. Wîhkwêntôwin is pronounced we-kwen-to-win.

    We are excited to share the same name as the community we call home!We offer French Immersion and Regular Kindergarten. Click here for Kindergarten Slideshow.

    NEW STUDENT REGISTRATION 2026-2027

    If your child is new to Edmonton Public Schools, you can register for school online. Visit the Division website to learn how to register for school.

    If you have questions about registering, contact the school office.

    NEW STUDENT REGISTRATION 2025-2026

    For the 2025-2026 school year, Wîhkwêntôwin School is full in planned classes in Grades 5 and 6 in the French immersion program and Kindergarten and Grade 5 in the regular program. We will no longer accept enrolment requests for Grades 5 and 6 in the French Immersion program. For the regular program, we will now only accept resident students in Kindergarten and Grade 5 whose parent(s)/legal guardian(s) have newly moved into the school’s attendance area. A resident student of Edmonton Public Schools has at least one parent or legal guardian living in Edmonton who is not Roman Catholic. Non-resident students can enrol in another Division school with space in planned classes.

    For the 2025 - 2026 school year, 

    If you are registering for Kindergarten or are new to Edmonton Public Schools, you must register online

Principal's Message

Welcome/Tatawaw/ Bonjour to our École Wîhkwêntôwin School family.  Wîhkwêntôwin is a Cree word, meaning Circle of Friends and as our 2025-2027 school year comes to a close, we want to celebrate and thank all of the friends in our circle for a great year of learning together, being kind and growing as learners.

Learning is our priority at École Wîhkwêntôwin School and learning will take place in many engaging ways. École Wîhkwêntôwin School is a safe place where students are encouraged and supported in their drive to reach their greatest potential. We work as a team with our learning partners to do what is best for all of the children in our care. The characteristics of kindness, caring, respect, inclusiveness and responsibility are only a few of the attributes that are part of every classroom.  

Our students have the power to make every school year exceptional. It all starts with choosing kindness and looking after one another. Our world is vast and full of exciting things to discover. We encourage our students to be passionate, ask questions, and explore the land that we live, learn and play on. Our students collaborate with their peers, take risks, and challenge themselves. This is their opportunity to be brave, achieve great things, and make a difference in the world!

As we head into a new school year this September, 2026, I look forward to connecting with new families, reconnecting with familiar families and I invite you to call or email me if you have questions, comments or wonders. You are your child’s advocate and your input matters. Together we are a 'Circle of Friends' and together we will learn lots and take care of each other.
